Working together on our CSR goals

We have been actively working on our role in society for a number of years and produce a report on this in our CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) report. This is expected of us by our customers, employees and the relevant authorities, but above all, we feel it is our responsibility. CSR and transparency are of great importance in our industry. We have divided the main themes into three main topics:

Social issues, such as animal welfare, food safety and good employment practices;

• Environmental issues, such as CO2 emissions and waste management;
• Economic issues, such as fair pricing.

We have already communicated about other CSR teams, such as the Energy Team and the Workforce Management Team. In addition, there is a Biodiversity Team and the subject of this article, the Animal Welfare Team.

Animal welfare: at farms, during transport and at production locations
Animal Welfare is mainly about continuously improving and monitoring animal welfare to our standard. That standard mainly relates to animal welfare at farms, during transport and at our production locations. Transparency and digitalisation play an important role in this. There are many projects within Vion to realise this goal. The Animal Welfare Team was established to support all production locations.

The Animal Welfare Team's role is to support production locations in achieving concrete objectives (such as a percentage of sales that have an animal welfare label), facilitate the process and communication between locations and Business Units, and secure budgets. We then implement the best examples at other locations.

Members of the Animal Welfare Team
The team consists of Stephan Kruse (CSR project lead), Paul Daum, Edwin Zeller and Hartmut Jung. In addition, Veronika Weber is responsible for the application of artificial intelligence.

Projects
The Animal Welfare Team has mapped out projects and plans their implementation to achieve the CSR goals. These projects include implementing higher animal welfare standards from farm to customer, protocol at extreme temperatures and intelligent camera surveillance at our production locations.
