Germany wins World Butcher Challenge

07-09-2022

As previously announced (in October 2021 and July 2022), the World Butcher Challenge took place last week in Sacramento, California. The German national team (Butcher Wolfpack) competed against the world's best in their field and won the competition!

Australia came second and New Zealand third. Top butchers from all over the world competed for the title of the world's best butcher team. That's why the event is also known as the 'Meat Olympics'.

The competition lasts over three hours, during which the participating teams have to prepare half a cow, half a pig, a whole lamb and five chickens. This requires superior knife skills, professionalism, but also creativity, flair and presentation skills.

A record number of 14 teams entered the competition: Australia, USA, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, Portugal, Wales, France and Germany.

Wolfpack Team Captain Dirk Freyberger: "The challenge is to invent something new, which can also be produced, sold and prepared in daily life. We also want to demonstrate our professional skills. And we want to increase awareness of how valuable meat is as a product."

The Butcher Wolfpack team takes part in this competition voluntarily and does not receive any money for participating. The team is supported by various sponsors, including Vion. Through our umbrella brand GOLDBEEF, we have been supporting the German team for a year now and are the official and proud sponsor.
