On 29 June 2022, seventeen Bavarian food manufacturers presented themselves in Bologna under the leadership of the Minister of State Ms Kaniber. Vion was one of these seventeen manufacturers. The Emilia-Romagna region and its capital Bologna lead the food manufacturing sector in Italy.
Italy is one of the most important export markets for Vion and especially for Bavarian food. Around fifteen percent of all Bavarian exports cross the Alps. In 2021, the export value of Bavarian food sold to Italy amounted to 412 million Euro for cheese, 187 million Euro for milk and dairy products, 196 million Euro for meat and meat products, and 113 million Euros for beer. Meanwhile, the Free State of Bavaria imports Mediterranean fruit and vegetables, olive oil, pasta, and many other specialities from Italy thanks to the popular demand of Bavarian consumers.
Our role was to represent Vion as an international food producer with a strong position in Bavaria. Regionality is a big consumer trend. We have to transport this by storytelling to our (potential) Italian customers and their consumers, and also to journalists and chefs/kitchens to use them as our ambassadors.
As a result of this event we got a free article in the magazine Eurocarni, we strengthened our relationship with the Bavarian Ministry, we got new business contacts and networked with Luigi Cremona - a famous restaurant judge.
