Vion expands its freezing capacity at logistics subsidiary Distrifresh. From now on, Vion will take over the activities of cold store Vriesoord in 's Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, and will rent the property for long-term. The acquisition was officially signed by Vion today. With this strategic move, Vion is reducing its CO2 footprint, safeguarding the quality of its products and minimising its transport costs.

Strengthening sustainability

By organising its freezing and storage activities centrally and close to existing production locations, Vion is greatly improving its logistics. The supply chain is shortened, leading to better quality and freshness of meat and more efficient production. This way of working is also more sustainable and cost-effective; utilisation of the new cold store in 's-Hertogenbosch will reduce the distance travelled in truck transport kilometres.

“The takeover of Vriesoord in 's-Hertogenbosch is the next step for Vion towards further sustainability. Sustainability is one of the focus points in our Building Balanced Chains strategy, in which we are building future-proof protein chains and thereby offering farmers a future and consumers a choice,” says John de Jonge, COO of Vion Pork.

Employees relocated

The new cold store will continue under the name ‘Distrifresh Coldstore Den Bosch’. The takeover of the activities is being carefully prepared and carried out. All employees were transferred to Vion. Arthur Jansen is responsible for the transition project and Pieter Pluk will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the cold store.
